The beginnings of a library

Sep 28, 2010 19:11

We love our books and it is my dream to build a small library for Sean. One which I hope Sean will come to treasure one day.

Somehow, the books we read when we were young always hold a special place in our hearts no matter how dog-eared or yellowed, don't they? :)

take photos of sean when he "plop on the floor with his favourite books and sit quietly flipping through the pages on his own" please!! i think that would be lovely & poster-worthy!

Thanks for posting this list! We've the same 2 Eric Carle books. My favourite book memory was in my later childhood - the What Katy Did series! Bubbles has inherited my old Dr Suess books. They now have a simplified Toddler series that she received for her birthday and loves - you could see if Sean likes them too!

You can try the Maisy (I know Kino and Bookaburra carries them) and Olivia series with Bubbles - I just realised the books above are a bit more geared for boys ;)

Hey, you can try getting some of the books from this website, http://www.acmamall.com/. They deliver the books right to your doorstep. Especially good for people who already know what books they want. Not sure if its much cheaper though.

Also, there is this youtube video on "We are going for a Bear Hunt", http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytc0U2WAz4s. It's performed by Michael Rosen himself. I really like how he uses his voice and actions in the video. Makes the story even more entertaining. :)

Thanks for sharing ur list.
Getting E books is one of my headaches cos I really wonder what's suitable at his young age now.. Think it gets easier as they grow older? No?
Anyhow, I shall go check out some of those u listed. Thanks! ;)

Yeah they get a bit more interested as they grow older - I think E may like touchy-feely books or those with flaps. Get the mini versions so he can try flipping the pages. Try Eric Carle, the Maisy series or Dear Zoo - the illustrations are big and bold which can hold their attention - Sean's still a big fan!

I love Brown Bear Brown Bear too! The Bun always taps his chest (referring to himself) when he sees the page with the children. I've memorised Goodnight Moon and recite it to The Bun when he's supposed to sleep, in the hope that it triggers drowsiness, heh heh. And We're Going on a Bear Hunt - love that final page!

I sometimes think I love The Bun's books more than he does. Heh. He's going through a phase where he now loves books with photographs of everyday objects, babies, animals etc. They're not so fun to read though.

HAHA yeah I think I get more excited about his books than Sean does too! He is getting a bit better at sitting through stories now and actually likes to pull out books and ask us to read to him now.

Sean likes those First Words books too - lots of pictures of bicycles, socks, shoes, dogs, cats, etc. He spends half the time running off in search of the actual items in the house and bringing them to us, haha.
