Corrupt cops support gun control. Surprise?

Nov 15, 2010 23:35

It's no secret that jurisdictions with massive degree of corruption are usually supportive of gun control. In Minnesota, much of the Minneapolis PD (more the brass than the rank and file) bitterly opposed shall-issue carry reform. What is less well known outside of Minneapolis is the sordid history of the so-called "Metro Gang Strike Force" which ( Read more... )

Of course dirty cops don't want the public armed. Any more than communist liberal politicians.

Communist <> liberal. In fact those terms are antonims.

US "liberals" are as often as not authoritarian socialists...which makes them similar enough to Communists. "Liberal" in the Russian sense isn't the same concept.

Communists are no more authoritarian then modern day respublicrats. Liberlas, well - that supporters of Laissez-faire, historically. For example ( ... )

There's a reason the shotgun behind the door is kept loaded with sabot slugs. Besides, at the ranges I'm shooting at in my house, there's not enough distance to spread to make a hit/miss difference.

I don't know if a slug would penetrate level 3 body armor, which most cops wear. A 7.62 x 25 handgun round will, along with most all rifle rounds. I'll bet that a slug would put them on the ground, though. I used to keep a specific load pattern in my shotgun. The first two were #8 bird shot, the next three were slugs. Now, I just keep sabot slugs in my shotguns. I probably should keep a rifle a bit more available.

7.62x25 wouldn't even defeat 2A vest, neither would soft slugs. Even sabots are marginal against soft armor and ineffective against plates.

Cops are scum. Their entire professional culture is rotten to the core. The problem is, how can society dispose of them? If we just fire them, they'll simply drop all pretenses of not being criminals, like the KGB did after the Soviet Union collapsed...

I disagree. I have personally observed entire departments that act ethically and professionally. Some other departments aren't as good.

I'm with you on this one. I've been friends with a few officers in a few different places. Of them, the closest I've come to seeing "corruption" is the state police lieutenant who gave me his card to keep in my wallet in case I ended up broken down on the side of the road. His fellow officers could then let him know, and he'd make sure get whatever help I'd need.

Either him, or the assistant chief campus police where I work giving me permission to bring a small ceremonial sword to class as visual aid for a presentation I was giving.

Of course the other side of the coin exists, but since I don't normally hang out with that crowd, I've managed not to run into any of those kinds of officers.

Absolutely correct. It's a cultural thing. There are different cup cultures among -- and sometimes with in-different departments. The issue is never are there bad cops -- every department is going to have a bad cop, from time to time, no matter how good the department is-but how it's handled ( ... )

I have personally discussed the carry law with a Sgt. in the Minneapolis PD. He was less than accommodating. He told me that he would "prone" ANYBODY he found with a weapon, regardless of whether or not they had a permit to carry. This was the summer of 2006. He left me with pretty disappointed with the Minneapolis Police Dept.
