For several years now, I've been doing training for retired cops from one local department. There's not one of them that's perfect-nor is their instructor, for that matter-but they are as fine, and ethical, and competent men and women as I've ever met.
And then there's others, like Minneapolis Police Department. I know there are good cops among them; but it's the bad cops that dominate that department.
Last weekend, I had to call 911 -- can't talk about why, but you know that the last thing in the world I want to do is call officers of the Minneapolis Police Department to my home. I'm a prominent critic of that department; and they knew it. But the three officers who responded-two patrolmen and a sergeant-acted with courtesy, professionalism, and propriety, and, at some point, I'm going to be saying nice things about them, by name, because I'm proud to have those three men working in my city, protecting and serving the public.
Others… well, not so much.
