Maelstrom 2 - after-action report.

Jun 07, 2010 12:13

I'm back on 4 Maelstrom events this year - or at least I'm booked for 4. Part of this is that I enjoyed last year more than the previous couple, part of this was 'a cunning plan' I put together over the winter. Whichever way, it was justified this weekend.

My post-Maelstrom LJ reports for the last few years have been very 'samey' - thanks to a ( Read more... )

Wow the same character for six years that is quite a feat...or is that just me?:) Anywho, glad you had 'win'

I do have a secondary who's appeared occasionally - but really very occasionally. He's primarily there for player events where it would make no sense for my primary character to appear.

I'd think there are quite a few blah.1 characters around - and I'd bet that some haven't missed an event. Mine's been close the death a good few times - but until I found a way to liven up the game was in far more danger of being retired.

Yeah I think its hard both ways, hard keeping an active character alive (again, I imagine this to be the case :) and equally hard to sustain interest in a more passive character. It just struck me that six years with the same toon seemed like a long time and yet the 'seasons' seem to pass quickly.

I've been to both extremes with characters. One LT character lasted seven years (less one event), this one now in his seventh season, one who lasted right through Omega, except for the final event which I missed - down to characters who I intended to be long term characters who lasted for less than one year ( ... )

A pleasure, as always, even (especially) the waltz :-) I've a guilty feeling you were as likely to sustain damage from my heels as I did from Scapino's mask. I'm curious to know which of the changes you made went outside your comfort zone, and also whether your plans for retiring the Dottore now all is revealed (TM) have changed.

No damage was received from heels.

To the first, taking the risk of running with the emotional side of the character, and using that to drive much more of how the character behaves than objectives related to the game rules and mechanics. That does include the comedy aspect, but doesn't include the deceitful side of him - that part was planned from the start and goes back to enjoyment of part of the later days of playing Bedo, and more obviously Popazogolou.

To the second, yes - the actions of other players could well cause him to be retired (bot not without a fight - even if not necessarily with swords), not all is revealed (and certainly not to everyone), but I have booked for all 4 events this year, with the intention of playing him through the whole year.

Thanks from both of us for giving us the 'in'; although it took us maybe 24 hours to adjust to the different pacing and feel, once it kicked in on the Sat night we really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be coming back!

I know I keep saying it, but I was *SO* impressed with how friendly and open everyone was, both IC and OOC - made it very easy to find my feet. Obviously much of this may be deceitful and they don't really like me at all (IC only I hope ;) but it made a hell of a difference as I was really quite nervous about starting a new field system.

And the tea house rocks :)
