Dinner
I was looking for somewhere nearby and new to get my dinner. A place in the next block I have been avoiding was Famous Dave's. It was another oversized restaurant along with Logans Run, Tony Carinos, Kabuki Japanese Steakhouse, and Lin's Grand Cafe. It looked like a slick chain outlet. But the reviews on Urban Spoon have put it in the top ten for weeks! It apparently is not a chain but a home-grown outfit. The new exterior belies an ersatz funky interior complete with a rusty Route 66 sign! How could i go wrong with that on the wall?
So I went for the Dave's Favorite which is a bacon cheeseburger. And fries. I drove over and went to the bar to pick up my order (The take out counter was closed.). I said "takeout" and the bartender said, "Charlie?". My yes elicited a ticket for $42 with my name at the top!! When I stammered there had been a mistake, he said it was the wrong ticket and crumpled it up. I got one for the expected $10. I told him I nearly wet my pants when he did that! I figured out this is a trick he does on the rubes.
They had a burger called the Devils Spit which has spicy sauce, pepper jack cheese, jalapeno bacon, and Hell-Fire pickles. I didn't ask about the pickles and bacon and passed on the whole thing!
I got my order and it was much better than my steak dinner from the Outhouse last night! This is as good as the Blue Sky.
I know I left the tomato off, Donna, but the larger one is on the burger! The fries were unique. They were "crinkle cut" like potato chips but thicker. And DONE! Also not salty like Red Robin's. An outstanding burger. I will give it a good review on UrbanSpoon. And go back for another meal.
