Dinner -- Famous Donna's Burgers -- Winter Style

One of our favorite meals is homemade burgers and "fries". There are two variations; this time we did the easy one. Thaw one package of grassfed, lean ground beef. We like to use this because it is a flat, square package and easily cut into quarters. A chub isn't as easy to make patties from but that also works.

If we are ambitious, we mix an envelop of onion soup mix with the beef. In both cases, we add Worcestershire sauce to the meat. Then we have to form patties from the bowl of stuff. Putting waxed paper between patties is essential. And letting these patties "rest" helps them hold together.

First the potatoes have to be put on to bake. We put foil on a cookie sheet and oil the foil with spray Pam. The potato (or two) is sliced and placed on the sheet, sprayed, and seasoned. Then popped in a 400° oven for 20 minutes. After that time, turn the "chips" while preparing to cook the patties. All we do is quarter the pound with a knife, squish them a little to flatten, and season.

This is Donna turning the chips. She uses a fork; I use a spatula. I didn't warn her I was taking a picture and the flash startled her. I was lucky I didn't get a a chip or two in my face!

After they go back in the oven for another 15 minutes, I begin grilling with our electric grill. It holds four patties exactly.

As you can see, it is a bit smoky so the exhaust fan is a necessity. It is sitting on a cookie sheet for stability on the stove top, especially when it is open like this. In the summer, of course, I cook them on the gas grill.

I think they are as good as Dave's burgers, including the "fries"!
