This chilling (no pun intended) episode of The Whistler is remarkable in the so much of the action takes place in the last five minutes. There isn't the usual twist ending that explains the protagonist's undoing. I actually had to listen to this episode twice because the ending took me by the surprise and my mind had wandered halfway through.

Apparently I'm too dense to make sense of the scenario, although I have an easier time with written than auditory comprehension: were Suzanne and Lea plotting independently to kill one another? Had Sam set them up to kill each other (although his getting off with impunity would be very unWhistler)?

I have trouble with auditory comprehension too sometimes - either I can't tell what actor is which or the story is too complex. There was an episode of Harry Lime that I listened too twice recently and I just didn't know what was going on except that it was Harry's usual swindle :-)

I think I like your interpretation, which leaves Sam innocent (though catastrophically oblivious) and two evildoers hoist on each other's petards, as it were.
