Death Wears a White Robe - The Whistler

This chilling (no pun intended) episode of The Whistler is remarkable in the so much of the action takes place in the last five minutes. There isn't the usual twist ending that explains the protagonist's undoing. I actually had to listen to this episode twice because the ending took me by the surprise and my mind had wandered halfway through. ( Read more... )

Very reminiscent of What Happened to Baby Jane.

Apparently I'm too dense to make sense of the scenario, although I have an easier time with written than auditory comprehension: were Suzanne and Lea plotting independently to kill one another? Had Sam set them up to kill each other (although his getting off with impunity would be very unWhistler)?

Hmm, I may have to listen to it for a third time :-) It's possible Sam left the women alone in hopes that they would work whatever problem they had out.

I have trouble with auditory comprehension too sometimes - either I can't tell what actor is which or the story is too complex. There was an episode of Harry Lime that I listened too twice recently and I just didn't know what was going on except that it was Harry's usual swindle :-)

I think I like your interpretation, which leaves Sam innocent (though catastrophically oblivious) and two evildoers hoist on each other's petards, as it were.

Thank you :-) The Whistler has quite a streak of oblivious folks in it - usually the baddie is undone by some seemingly helpful gesture or person - the episode "The Rawhide Coffin" comes to mind, as well as another when a man is trying to sabotage a factory.
