Wow, this was so brutal and sad. Wonderful job getting into both brothers' heads - their voices transported me back to the tail end of season four and all of the pain and angst that came with it. I especially like how you depicted Dean being uncomfortable with simply leaving Sam to his fate, good or bad - as he was, I think, in the episode - yet not uncomfortable enough to actually stop and find a way to cure Sam.

And Sam, oh, Sam. My stomach was roiling, reading about him drinking his own blood.

Because Sam’s on the floor and limp, eyes closed. Still breathing, and that’s good, but there’s blood on the floor and Sam’s…Sam’s mouth is fixed to his wrist and Dean can feel his gorge rise looking at the smears of blood on the skin and a few drops sliding away from his mouth even now, and the way his throat works once as Sam swallows.

His skin is sallow and pale and Dean can see without thinking that Sam is killing himself and that he probably doesn’t even realize.

Wonderful job!

You leave the nicest comments. >> Thank you so much! It's all been very recent for me, so that probably helped.

Yeaah, Sam is not in a happy place at this point in time. And it doesn't even really get better. I only wish I were better at comfort.

new to this fandom? wow - could've fooled me. you did a really great job with this! hurt Sam is pretty much my kryptonite and I loved how you wrote him here. Sam's cramping hunger, the little details of the blood, the horror movie jump-cut ending ... shivers.

This is Sam’s problem. He can get through it on his own. After all, if he’s so much stronger and better...

and man, no matter how old this episode is, it still hurts. well, it hurts Sam, mostly. ;)

*blush* Thank you! You and me both on the hurt Sam (hence why I'm here) and I've been loving reading what everyone else does, had to jump in myself. I wasn't sure about the ending, so I'm glad it worked for you!

nd man, no matter how old this episode is, it still hurts. well, it hurts Sam, mostly. ;) Well yes. And of course it's all uphill from here! Oh wait.

Thank you for the kind words. :D

I feel drained after reading this. It's so brutal and painful and tragic, especially knowing how it will end.
You described Sam's desperation and Dean's conflict so well, it left me feeling slightly hopeless. Brilliant fic!

Yeah...I wish it got better after this. :\

Thank you! I've really enjoyed what I've read of your fic (for Doctor Who also) so that's especially meaningful. Even if I left you feeling hopeless. I'm a little bit sorry?
