Filled: Disappeared Among the Shady Blades 2/He shows up at 7 on the nose with a bottle of organic table wine and an apologetic look on his face

When they’re finished eating Lucas goes inside to wash up the dishes and she divvies out the rest of the wine. They’re silent for a few minutes, watching the sun sink below the horizon, before he clears his throat.
“You probably have some questions.”
She does, dozens, but she’s not sure how to ask. And he seems so weary, she doesn’t want to add to his troubles. She lifts her glass and takes a long swallow

I always really liked Andrea, so it was nice to see her and Lucas Luke again. And i'm glad it was set post-s7 - the added burden on Sam of searching for Dean and taking out the Leviathans was a nice touch. I feel like there must be a lot of people like Andrea out there, that the boys have helped and that believe in them despite what they see on the news, even if they don't know the whole story. Dean and Sam (especially Sam, now) need that kind of support. I wish something like this would happen on the show.
To sum up...THANK YOU x eleventy billion :)
PS - if you can come up with something this enjoyable your first time out, I can't wait to see what else you write :)
Oh, yay! I'm so relieved that you enjoyed it even though I didn't put Sarah in it. (I'm halfway convinced that something tragic happened to her offscreen since she kinda hooked up with Sam.)
Thanks so much for the lovely comment and the terrific prompt!
I have to say, when I read "post-7.23", it didn't really click in my head. And then when I got to the end of part 1, I suddenly realized that Dean was gone and got so, so sad for Sam. This was an excellent fic, and it was great to see characters from such a long time ago.
Here on a rec from Killabeez and she was so right! Some of the past guest characters were well-worth a revisit, and you worked that beautifully here. One of the things I loved about that episode (Dead in the Water) was how so often Sam was seen on the outside, looking in. Observing. It was as if he was discovering things about his brother that had never occurred to him before, and really marked the beginning of a different relationship between them. THIS brother, that he just began to understand in Dead in the Water, Sam misses him so damn much now. And that just shimmers in your writing. Which works all the better from the wonderful outsider POV you've delivered.
Thanks so much for reading and commenting! I started writing this piece during an interminable staff meeting at work, and rewatched 1x03 that night. I was struck again by the scene where Sam watches Dean connecting with Lucas, and starts to realize what it was like for Dean to be in (and remember) that fire.
I know I know your name *runs off to look* oh wow, you've written some truly amazing stories. I loved the zombie class at Stanford! and the Mango story in New York! And the way the Devil's Snare was trapping Sam in a life he didn't want!
Basically, everything of yours I've read has been excellent and memorable, so I'm thrilled that you liked my little story.
This is really excellent, and so sad. I wanted very much to see someone fill this prompt, and you did an amazing job. Love Andrea and Lucas, and Sam broke my heart! Also, I'm really glad that they're okay! I was hoping to see stories about what's happening out there across America, and this was a great glimpse into that.
Oh, I'm so honored that you liked it--I've read some of your stories and think you're a terrific writer. (I was just re-reading Everything in its Place over the weekend, one of my favorites.) Thank you!
