I took a Queer Cinema class at university right around the time that this movie was winning all the awards. The class was divided right down the middle with half of the class believing that the story was good and the other half, most angrily, declaring that a straight woman had no place writing what it was like to be gay. It was one of the most interesting classes I took that semester.
