They do these remakes with the idea that they 'need to be redone for the modern generation'.
I get that if you're say, 13 years old, you've probably never seen the original movie. But you could always, you know, watch the actual original.

Also, the reason that Dirty Dancing was so successful in the first place is that it came out of nowhere - that made it so magical. It's a cult classic. You can't just recreate that. It'd be like someone remaking Citizen Kane, for Christ's sake.

Yes it was a small film with a bunch of unknowns (Patrick Swayze was the most famous but he really hit his stride with DD), made with a small budget. They earned money hand over fist. I think the original director has passed on.

i dont think this qualifies as a 'cult classic' considering everyone loves it

has far too much class.
not going to lie, i don't see alot of credible actors reaching out for this role. i think most would be far too frightened of the backlash.

It'd be like them remaking The Godfather and trying to get big name people to essentially replace Brando. LOL YEAH OK I'M SURE EVERYONE'S GONNA JUMP AT THAT.

And that's just from the 80s. Casablanca is my all time I-Kill-You-All-If-You-Even-Think-About-Remaking-This film.

I don't think any film maker worth a damn would ever consider remaking the classics, like Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, etc.
You'd have your directors guild card revoked.
