Not a movie, but the obvious answer is Game of Thrones.

I felt this way about Heretic. the first half had such incredible build-up and suspense and tension...only for it to devolve into...whatever it was trying to do.

Was coming in here to say this too! First half was amazing. Second was still entertaining but definitely more standard slasher/horror fare.

I was expecting Downsizing to be a dramady, but it then took a weird left turn into a completely different movie.

The Kingsmen was a great movie and lots of fun, until that last scene. It didn’t ruin the whole movie, but I definitely turn it off and pretend that scene doesn’t exist.

Yeah that ending scene of Kingsman was so damn jarring and left a bad taste in my mouth for an otherwise fun movie

The ultra/fantasy violence didn’t bother me, and I’m not adverse to dirty/sexual jokes, but that ending was just so wrong for the movie.

lmao I literally left a comment further down saying it ruined the whole movie! Which for me, it did.

That ending actually made it interesting again after the movie meandered a bit

The ending was so Sleepaway Camp coded and I fucking loved that for it

Obviously a lot of TV shows decline in later seasons (given they are just so much longer), so I have a harder time thinking of a movie that started great and ended horribly.

I think the Star Wars sequels for me. The Force Awakens started out good & I was excited to see a new Star Wars movie and what things were like post-ROTJ and just ended up so disappointed. They really wasted what could have been an interesting premise to explore and misused the characters. Finn should have had more exploration as a character, Rey's plot went way off course. I may be in the minority that hated Kylo Ren (and I liked Vader, but felt like trying to replicate the OG trilogy was awful).

I would agree with the Star Trek reboots as well but I'm not sure that's what you meant 😅

I still can't believe they didn't map out a set outline and plot points for all three movies before they started filming anything. What a mess.

George Lucas had a plan for the prequels. It was a crappy plan, but at least he had one.
