I felt this way about Heretic. the first half had such incredible build-up and suspense and tension...only for it to devolve into...whatever it was trying to do.

Was coming in here to say this too! First half was amazing. Second was still entertaining but definitely more standard slasher/horror fare.

Agreed. Pithing a religious fanatic against a smug atheist would've made a better movie. It's really just a creepy old man preying on a couple of young girls with fake religious profundity.

Yeah, it fell apart in the last act. I was expecting a lot more about the house being a labyrinth and them moving through different rooms with theological tests or something...
