Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra says "Madame Web" flopped in theaters "because the press just crucified it."

"It was not a bad film, and it did great on Netflix. For some reason, the press decided that they didn’t want us making these films out of ‘Kraven’ and ‘Madame Web,’… pic.twitter.com/1BSU2PclUo

I’m watching HBO’s The franchise, which is a show set backstage the shooting of those superheroes films and it’s really fun, so many moments reminded me of ONTD comments lol

Also, Idk why folks want to act like these dumbass films are anything but mindless fun. Just let shit be what it is.

Is everyone at Sony delusional?

Madame Web likely did decent on Netflix because people were interested in how bad it was. Thats all.

And it was bad

I maintain my conspiracy theory that some of these movies are made to fail. People will still pay to see bad movies but it's ridiculous to spend hundreds of millions of dollars making a bad movie and still expect it to break even, let alone profit. There's gotta be some kind of embezzlement or money landering scheme going on because anyone with basic arithmetic skills can see that the math ain't mathing.

And tickets are so expensive now that people are not going to drop money for an "Oh hell, why not?" movie.

“It was not a bad film, and it did great on Netflix.”

It probably did great on Netflix since people were watching it BECAUSE it was a bad film

Source: My partner and I watched it because it was bad and we wanted to make fun of it

Being popular on Netflix is not an indicator of something being good anyway. The current No. 1 movie on Netflix in my country is Carry-On. While it was a fun, mindless watch, there is no doubt about it being a crap movie.

They really thought they could recreate die hard, but it was just long and stupid.

Never watched this movie, never will. But I don't think people are that interested in superhero movies anymore and just because it's women led, does not mean you'll get women in the cinema seats
