Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra says "Madame Web" flopped in theaters "because the press just crucified it."

"It was not a bad film, and it did great on Netflix. For some reason, the press decided that they didn’t want us making these films out of ‘Kraven’ and ‘Madame Web,’… pic.twitter.com/1BSU2PclUo

The script sucked, but Dakota was miscast as hell. She couldn't have whisper acted her way out of the harness to sell this horseshit lol

The way this whole Why are U punishing me Sent from my Sony Xperia Z2 Universe failed lol

They are so out of touch. Most people don't care what critics have to say, especially younger generations.

Also, if Venom was still successful that should tell you that the audience doesn't care what critics have to say.

Venom probably did better cause the first came out in 2018 during peaks of the MCU movies doing well so they managed to build up a fanbase and clearly the films were good enough.

All these other movies came out post-MCU peak run and the incoming superhero fatigue.

I’m sure press and audiences played a factor though.

Although these comments do remind me of how well Sydney Sweeney handled the criticisms and reviews of the movie.

Venom’s also a popular character even if you don’t read comics. No one cares about Morbius, Kraven or Madame Web.

I think him being linked to Spider-Man (something I didn't know about until maybe the second movie!) is pretty huge. I get Madame Web has that connection, but… there's the whole "she's a woman" thing.

Sony needs to do the work to make the unknowns work. Iron Man felt like lightning in a bottle-I don't think you can replicate what happened there.

Sure. It couldn't possibly be all the horrible ADR.

At least he didn't say it was because it had a female lead, though i'm sure he feels that way.
