Eh, I just keep forgetting going to the cinema and I guess my last film was in November. I just don't know.

We are finally getting The Brutalist January 10th at one of my favorite indie theaters! They're showing it in 70mm and has these goodies:

"Customers purchasing tickets for select *premium screenings* on opening weekend will receive an exclusive poster commemorating the presentation, format and run of engagement at the Music Box + limited-edition brochure and postcard set celebrating the life and work of lead character, Lazlo Toth."

I am excited and want all of the things!

i watched conclave. i was loving it until the plot twist which i thought was incredibly stupid. and for the life of me i have no clue why isabella rossellini is getting any award attention

Yeah, I think for Isabella, she's fishing for a career award more than anything about her role in this specific film, which was fine but kind of unremarkable.

I liked her one big scene but it's not enough to earn awards a claim imo...

I also thought the twist was dumb as hell but I weirdly still liked the ending? I think I was willing to forgive since I had enjoyed it so much to that point.

yeah, that's basically how I felt, too! lol

I am still shocked it's such a big awards contender, mostly because it's so unserious.

It's been a great week for movies for us.

Went to see Nickel Boys on Sunday night. It was excellent, and I enjoyed the Q&A with the director RaMell Ross afterward. I know it's doing absolutely terribly in limited release, but I encourage you to see it if you get a chance, especially if you liked the book.

On Tuesday, we saw The Order, which was a solid little dramatic thriller. Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult were both good, and it's depressingly relevant even though it's set in the 1980's.

Last night, we went to see the IMAX early access screening of A Complete Unknown. I was kind of skeptical of this whole project, even though I love both Timothée and James Mangold's movies as a whole, mostly because music biopics can be tired. But man, I loved this! So many songs, skipped a lot of the typical biopic beats (like, I've seen multiple people calling it "paint by numbers" when I really don't think it is at all? Walk the Line is that to a T, and I love it anyway, but this is different), and has a great cast making it work. Mangold ( ... )

Yeah, American Cinematheque really needs to do a better job of announcing their special screenings
