Brian Cox has a bone to pick with the Oscars.

when you sit and think about it, all awards shows are nonsense.

Countless pieces of music, tv, and movies come out every year, and the only people fortunate enough to get nominated are apart of major labels with enough clout to get some name recognition.
And then a committee of people vote (sometimes throwing a dart at a board) to pick a winner, or picking based on political/social reasons.

Award shows were designed to sell advertisement time and have a central place to look at celebrities. Nothing more or less.

I still love award season, but he's not wrong! Distributors and campaigning are the biggest drivers of award recognition, and plenty of great stuff gets overlooked because it comes out too early in the year or under the wrong studio banner or whatever. I can't speak to his particular case because I didn't see either movie, but I am sure most of my fave films and performances from this year will not make appearances at the Oscars, and I have made peace with that.

Yeah, I don't see him complaining about all the awards Succession collected over the years. It was deserved, but all the awards fail to recognize great work. The Oscars are not alone there.

Also, we have too many Churchill movies.
