I saw a preview screening at an Alamo theater last week and thought it was fantastic. You could literally hear gasps in the audience at certain points, so it was definitely affecting to the audience. I'm very interested to see where the story goes.
I liked it. I was hoping it'd feel more like the movies but it's not shot similar, didn't find the similar etc so feels very separate which is okay just I was hoping it would feel more connected (other than it being Dune's 10000 year ago history lol)? The first episode was also going to be rough with exposition cause it needs to be accessible to people who haven't watched the movies or read the books also. I think a review I read said it gets better for that.
I would have likely stuck it out for Mark Strong and Olivia Williams if I hadn't liked it anyway (I'm liking Emily Watson as Valya too). It's also only 6 episodes so it'll be easy to keep up with, though hopefully they'll be able to cover the story in 6 but I saw it referred to a first season and not a mini series so I guess I can only hope it doesn't end with a ton of cliffhangers 😂
I liked it, but it didn’t quite feel like the Dune universe. It felt like sets and costumes, and not…real, if that makes sense. Also, the club scene took me out, it just felt like a whole other show in that moment. Not that there can’t be a nightlife and entertainment in this cinematic universe, but it came off more like R Rated Star Wars or something. All that said, it’s well acted and I’m always up for a story with twists and scheming so I’ll keep watching.
