Elsbeth and her empty bags are kind of mid for me. They need to get better at how Elsbeth fixates on a person being a killer. She literally just decides within seconds of meeting them. Colombo could just about pull it off and the "innocence" of that era.

That said, I thought the last murder was justified. I was rooting for the person to get away with it.

Yes, 100% on Elsbeth! The empty bags are distracting. I have found the writing in the murders hit or miss as well. I first found it annoying when the Modern Family guy planned a fairly genius alibi for himself but then apparently didn't wash his hands for 14ish hrs so she figured it out cause of spots of glitter.

I did like the Nathan Lane one but that was only because he played that character so well (but again did something pretty dumb).

I do think them focusing on the relationship with her and the other officer are good and I like the rotating detectives they bring on personality wise.

I have been watching old Murder She Wrote and people used to work way harder at getting away with thier murders!

Yup. And Vanessa Williams character leaving all those apple discards to be found. I watch "Colombo" and "Murder she wrote" regularly so that genre is my bread and butter. Sometimes when the evidence they use to catch someone is flimsy I catch myself shouting "don't confess he/she has got nothing on you!!" 🤣

I get what they are trying to do with Elsbeth but let her have a few mins of lining up suspects before settling on one.

I watched the first episode of Matlock and really liked it. I'll have to catch up with it. also the first scene was filmed at one of my favourite cafes downtown lol so I enjoyed that

I always see commercials for Elsbeth, maybe I'll give it a shot.

I have become a CBS branded tv freak recently. Although I’m not in their demographic and I never saw The Good Wife or Fight, I’m won over by Elsbeth and Matlock. I enjoy Elsbeth more, I can’t believe she and her partner cop aren’t lesbians, they give me the vibe. Crazy going in blind to a CBS property with a new show starring a character that’s been in the mix for fifteen years… I still enjoy her spinoff. And Kathy Bates and the lady who plays Olympia are awesome. Would watch them in anything at this point.

Yeah CBS started putting out all these shows I want to watch all of a sudden. It’s been a hot minute since Elementary (rip 😢).

I like Elsbeth better than Matlock. Elsbeth makes me laugh and I love her outfits. I tend to forget Matlock is on.

I am having so much fun with both these shows.

Elsbeth is quirky in a likable way with likable characters and inside jokes. The show does cameos really well compared to OMITB for example. 2x1 is my favorite episode so far this season bc the motive was so relatable lol. He and the latest murderer weren’t wrong tbh! I do hope they do more with the Chief this season.

Matlock is corny but it works and I love all the characters. The camaraderie between Maddy and Olympia is the best part which means it’s going to hurt more when Olympia finds out. I think the person Maddy is looking for is [Spoiler (click to open)]Olympia’s ex husband. He did it to get ahead and impress his dad. Their rekindled romance will end when she finds out what he did.

I agree on your theory. I also think Olympia and Matlock will break off and set up their own firm.
