My grandpa was the same. I thought he told me he started smoking at age 5 because his family owned a tobacco store and lived above it. He died when I was 13 and he was about 84, and I never remember him being able to walk around much due to emphysema. He also had supplemental oxygen at the end of his life. And I don't think he ever quit smoking, either. People should know that lung cancer is not the only danger of smoking.

They have CDC: Tips From Former Smokers commercials with real people who have to use oxygen and other things.
YouTube has a bunch of them.

I loved everything about smoking and missed it for so long after I quit, but the smell repulses me now. I’m grateful to be at this stage because it means I’ll never be a smoker again.

My mom started at 11. At 61 now, her cough gets worse by the day. There isn't a time while she's awake that she isn't smoking, it's the reason I've never been able to stay in the same room as her more than a few minutes (I'm asthmatic because of her, of course). For as long as I've been an adult I've been preparing myself for the day she'll get bedridden from it, and I don't think it's gonna be much longer. And then of course I'll be the one paying the price.

i get annoyed when people act like smoking cigarettes isnt an addiction

its so easy to get ahold of when youre in particular groups, especially with vaping now

8 years old is /insane/ tho. it disturbs me to think of the growing little body having to adjust to the effects of nicotine to the body and brain

my mom is a smoker. she started when she was 14, and is in her early 60s now. she will never quit, ive tried many times. thankfully shes not a chain smoker and gets blood panels done every other month. it causes me a ton of anxiety as i worry constantly about my parents health

"i get annoyed when people act like smoking cigarettes isnt an addiction"

I feel the same about weed or any substance. Anything is addictive if you give it time. Worse if you happen to have a predisposition.

I just wish people weren't so obnoxious and dismissive about the dangers of it.

right. ill admit im addicted to weed, but what sucks is it also helps with my anxiety and i have to jump through many obstacles if i wanted anti-anxiety meds. but nothing helps give me an appetite more than weed esp when i havent eaten all day so ive learned to acknowledge the addiction for what it is

cigarettes will never go away, just like every other substance, unfortunately

At my worst, I was smoking weed every day. I got to a point where I would smoke once a night from Thurs-Sunday. I’m sure it’s no better than cigarettes…but my house is so clean! 😖

It's good of him to let people know. I used to smoke and am so grateful to have been able to quit

Nicotine is a hell of a drug
