the murder plotline was studio interfering in season 2 and they course-corrected pretty admirably after that. the show basically retconned it!

I don't think the core theme of the story will adapt well to the social media era. Small town underdogs in this day would try to create stunts for virality and gofundmes.

NO! Goddammit I'm so fucking sick of the endless remakes of things that are fine on their own. Let people watch the original and invest in new ideas instead. I have to wonder how many writers are in Hollywood with great ideas for new shows that just get passed over because god forbid a network actually take a chance on something original. Nope, let's just repackage and make a shittier version of something that was a success 20 years ago.
