As one of the cover stars for Vanity Fair's Hollywood issue, Nicole Kidman was also interviewed by them. Her viral AFI tribute where she listed every director she's worked with came up, and she was asked which directors she'd like to work with on a movie.

"I've always said I want to work with Scorsese, if he ( Read more... )

I mean, she's not wrong. One or two decent female characters in movies dominated by countless men just aren't really that engaging to me personally. So there's lots of 'classic' or great movies that I'm just not likely to ever see.

My favorite quote from Felicity Jones is "I'm just not interested in the movies without women in it", and she's my fave for a reason. Of course that news headline went very well with the neckbeards.

The film bros have been spiraling about it 😭

She didn't lie tho. Even Lily Gladstone wasn't a lead actress in KOTFM.

Which was funny cause he had switched up the story from Jesse Plemmons's character to hers to better showcase Molly's side but lol she gets sidelined (literally) to the background and doesn't make an appearance again till hour 4.

He switched the FBI stuff and gave it to Leo and De Niro, which was a bad move.
In the book it was very clear that what happened to the Osage was far beyond a few bad guys. It was the whole society (from doctors, neighbors, lawyers, the police, to people high in government) that destroyed that community. And justice never came for the majority of them.
He just wanted to focus on "flawed men" like he's used to.

Lol the funny thing is he was saying how he felt Molly didn't feature enough which is why switched the focus. Molly was still sidelined!!

The discourse around this has been interesting lmao

I've seen it go from "Call him out!" to "He's focused on telling stories about how a lot of men are bad actually" to "If he were to make a movie about a woman people would complain he wasn't the right person to tell the story, so what's he supposed to do?" to "How DARE she criticise him!" to "She didn't mean any harm by it, she was just pointing out that he doesn't do movies with women, it was a factual statement" etc etc.

The whiplash from tweet to tweet is something

It's basically the same discourse when it was Marty vs the MCU fandom loool!! Which is why this is cracking me up cause Nicole isn't the big bad like Marvel/Disney and she's got more right than they do lol.

Yeah it's weird how people can't understand that multiple things can be true. Regardless of his integral work behind the scenes Scorsese doesn't center women in his movies. And while that doesn't take away from his talent, as a professional actress it's probably disheartening to work in a field where your male peers have more opportunities to work with "living greats" than you do.

The wildest take to me was "Nicole is just saying that to cope about the fact that he never offered her a role"

Nicole Kidman is coping 😐
