First, bless you and bless your indie film posts. Just, thank you.

My sister saw Anora last night in her effort to avoid media and election results. She said it was intense and left the theater feeling extra overwhelmed, so maybe not the best choice for last night. (I opted to stay home and watch the end of season two of The Diplomat which was....TIMELY AF. If we aren't nuked by then, waiting another year or whatever, I'd really like to know how everything on this fictional world stage plays out.)

Big fan of Andrea Arnold so can't wait for Bird. Bonus: Fontaines DC music is apparently prominent in the film.

Also big fan of Cillian (obviously) and I read Small Things Like These last year, so very much looking forward to this (depressing and gloomy af) adaptation.

Lots of movies looming in my future because real life is going to be very very hard. All my friends and I can talk about today is speculation on where we can escape to, but since none of us are rich or have dual citizenship anywhere, movies it is.

I’ve been very tired and busy recently but I think I’m going to take advantage of my upcoming three day weekend to hit the movie theater! I’ll definitely see Anora but I kind of also want to see a bunch of old men yell at each other in Conclave.

I did watch The Outrun after it hit VOD and liked it much more than I expected. I loved staring at the pretty scenery and Saoirse gave a great performance that seemed to be a more grounded and nuanced depiction of alcoholism than most.

I watched Nosferatu from 1979 yesterday. It was very beautiful but it also made me laugh somehow. I do understand it's a serious movie and I felt bad for Dracula but at the same time he was really pathetic.

He just made a ton of really sad noises lmao. Like in one scene he spots a cross so he just goes like 'HHhhhhhh' and scurries off. It's not funny but it is!

I saw The Brutalist on monday, eeeee not good. I didn’t particularly like any performances either, everyone is ok. Too little Alesandro Nivola, he was quite intriguing and I always like him.
I’ll be seeing Here as my post-election shit film punishment - in 2016 I saw The Accountant. Anora on Friday.

Anora will be a good post-election movie.

For the Brutalist, without spoilers what didn’t you like about it? The main takeaway I’ve heard is that it’s beautiful but too long.

Have you seen Conclave yet? Asking because Fiennes seems to be the runner up right now behind Brody for best actor, so curious how you think they stack.

The Brutalist - script is nothing special, definitely lacking some subtext and compelling moments. The visuals also get a little flat as it goes on? I saw it on film but you don’t have to. I didn’t care for the arch of the main character, feels especially predictable as an immigrant story. Been there, done that. I haven’t seen Conclave but there’s no way Brody gets another Oscar. He’s been better in many other movies and his performance in The Pianist was especially beautiful.

Thanks! Yeah I loved the Pianist when I watched it years ago but have never been able to watch it again since certain scenes really destroyed me.

I could see Fiennes taking it because Conclave is a fun movie that I think will have more of an impact and he has the narrative.

Can't wait to see Anora and Heretic this weekend. I'm seeing Conclave tonight. I plan on basically watching movies 24/7 for the next while to stave off the crippling depression a bit.
