I read her book My Life on the Road ages ago and loved it. I want to read more feminist non fiction but the problem is that it just reminds me of how much the world sucks, and I don't always handle that well.

"this moment will never arrive again, so why not take advantage of it?" - good advice for many situations

My grandfather was a key holder at the Playboy Club in NYC. I hope he wasn't a perv, but I know the vast majority of the male clients were.

She looks like my Auntie Chris. I have a picture somewhere with Gloria and Dorothy Pitman Hughes doing the iconic raised fists

Kirstie Alley starred as Steinem in a TV movie about her time working in the Playboy Club.

I remember watching it. it was sanitized for tv and not as gritty as the real story

I give her grace because she is 90, but historical facts are IMPORTANT.

Rather than say "the club had some likely unlawful practices with regard to its employees. " Did it or did it not have unlawful practices as it pertained to women? "Unlikely" is too vague for me here.

It was more likely that there was not illegal about the Bunny Costumes - which was part of the problem. The "internal exam" = was it a Playboy Club thing or was it required in New York City? How were women affected during that time period with work "dress codes", etc.

I feel strongly that the actual facts need to be represented and talked about because otherwise, people do not know how far women advanced their rights last century. As it is today, in 2024, I feel younger women in their less than 30, do not care or know what their moms and grandmas went through. The fact that people are mocking women who in 2024 might be afraid to not vote like their husbands need to know how strict things were only 50 years ago.

And keeping facts straight about the legacy of ( ... )

By internal exam I think she means a vagunal exam, which I’m guessing was not a state requirement to serve food.

OH! I have been spending too much time with my Internal Medicine doctor and did not think of it being as vaginal exam.

I mean... what you've quoted aren't her words but the listicle's. She is quite explicit about exactly what she went through in the actual exposé, "A Bunny's Tale".
