This is a power play, and I'm not mad. He legit walked up to Netflix and said "Bwok bwok biotch!!!" What are they going to do, replace him? Gabriel has a lot of fans, and I'm sure he isn't get paid enough because eip is an extremely popular show and everyone should be getting paid more because I'm sure Lili's people have made damn sure she got her donuts for Season 5. Just saying.

That's the beauty in it; more than likely they're not going to want to do either thing but what are they going to do, fire him? More than likely they'll just offer him more money.

That's my cynical side talking. He might genuinely be fed up with the writing and is just done.

I mean... it's a wholly accurate opinion, and not worded in a way where he just sounds petulant or whiny, but saying it at all is quite the risk. Very much biting the hand that feeds.

Though I figure he probably knows that and is ready to gamble if it gets him out or gets him better writing

Yeah, he's kept quiet for 4 seasons, this was clearly deliberate. It's unprofessional but in this case I don't think he's trashing for the sake of trashing, he definitely sounds frustrated because he had higher expectations and genuinely wants the show to do better. Darren Star does need to hear other people's input sometimes, if we judge by what he did with "Younger" finale...I personally wouldn't have done this, I'd be frustrated and rant to friends but I would never air it so publicly, but I'd also not make any difference that way. If he manages to make a difference, kudos. If not, and he still signs on for the next season, he'll look worse to people lmao def a gamble

I get what he's trying to achieve but as a writer and someone who makes a living out of writing, I'm annoyed lol I'd love to write what I actually want and find inspiring but usually I'm being paid to write what dumb people want to consume and engage with, plain and simple. You can butter up the audience by acting like Emily in Paris' viewers are known for their intelligence but the writers are giving them what Netflix execs have determined the audience actually wants. Know your audience, Mr. Bravo, this isn't high art.

i'm both :) I'm a freelance casting producer but my day job is (copy)writing for news outlets, and every now and then I get the chance to write scripts/campaigns and stuff where I don't need to dumb myself down to connect with the target audience lol
