is it depressing? i unfortunately feel like a lot of that director's films do have a point, i just always feel shitty and emotionally exhausted at the end of them, which just isn't fun for me.

it's a comedy but it does get depressing towards the end

I'm so disappointed with the way Didi fell off, bc Joan Chen deserves everything! But I'm happy to see Izaac Wang nominated.

So far this has been a really weak year for film. Unless they've been holding all the good stuff for November/December, it will go down in history as a dismal year. Joker2, Megalopolis, Madam Web and lots of indies that failed to land.

Interesting because I have not seen that many films this year but I have loved quite a few. Different tastes I guess.

Of course everyone has different taste. These are the top 5 hits so far this year. They're all sequels or part of a franchise, nothing new or original. I saw four of them and didn't enjoy any of them. This is dismal afaic

Inside Out 2
Deadpool & Wolverine
Despicable Me 4
Dune: Part Two
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Awards-wise, most commentators think this is indeed a weaker year for awards bait stuff.

A Different Man was great, so I'm glad it's getting a little attention.
