Not gonna lie, I don't either but a few users asked if I was going to make a post about the HYBE shit show and well. Here is my offering. Make a better one if you feel like it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

💕 Boo Seungkwan

And fuck Hybe for wanting him to come back from hiatus after Moonbin passed to distract from Joshua’s “dating” scandal.

seungkwan really seems like a good egg. the first thing i think of when i think about him is how he included all the other idols during seventeen's MAMA daesang acceptance speech saying that they all work hard and have things they can learn from each other. imo it really showed his character.

that and he spoke up after the news about korean men [tw]assaulting their female family members with deepfakes and other sex crimes. idr seeing any other male korean celebrity saying anything about it.

i might have to get a seungkwan icon, tbh.

Seungkwan is such a sweetie. I'm glad that he didn't end up being made to come back early to distract from the Joshua dating rumors but even having that being a discussion is INSANE.

Also like, ok. Fans need to chill the fuck out about idols dating? At the time I was thought Joshua seemed to be taking the whole scandal REALLY hard. Like his WeVerse post + his concert ments at the time seemed v serious in a way that I was a little taken aback by. And knowing that this discussion was happening behind the scenes makes it make sense to me now. I'm sure Joshua knew that Hybe was concerned about his merch sales being down and they were talking about bringing Seungkwan back early and like that's not fair to Seungkwan but also not fair for Joshua to feel like it's HIS fault that it might happen. That's a big burden for him.

I'm a bit confused, is his response against the people now going (righfully) after Hybe or his own company?

It's my understanding that he's upset with HYBE and the fanwars that this entire clusterfuck sparked.

Hybe is his company, lol.

Pledis (Seventeen's label) is a sublabel under Hybe. When the Joshua dating rumors were going down, Hybe was analyzing merch sales/online fan sentiment and it was bad for Joshua so Hybe was discussing the possibility of brining Seungkwan back early from his hiatus.

But Seungkwan is careful to be protective of the actual staff he works with so his issue is not at all with the like managers or anything.

To add on to this; supposedly in one of the Hybe releases they shit talked Changbin from Stray Kids and his friendship and how they looked odd together at music shows or doing dance challenges. Because he's super tall and Changbin's short. Supposedly Hybe's hang up and the reason they talked shit about Changbin is they tried on three separate times to "buy"/get Stray Kids to leave JYP. Fans are calling it buying because I guess they offered them an exorbitant amount of money because they guys supposedly have rights to their catalogue, since 3racha wrote most of the songs, so they could bring it with them. But SK's turned them down and resigned with JYP. So Hybe's having/had a toddler temper tantrum.

I say supposedly because I haven't actually read the documents and a lot of this is fan talk, so you know it's probably all hyped up to the high heavens with stan fever pitch. But I'm guessing there's an ounce of truth to it since Seungkwan mentioned dance challenges at the end of his response here.

Also.

Does anyone know what the goal or target of the boycott is? Seems to me like it's not going to actually help Seventeen, unless I'm missing something???

Also also

I hope Seungkwan is able to still enjoy the rest of his time on tour in spite of all this going on. Next show isn't until Thursday so I hope he can rest have some fun with the members.

I mean yeah lol I don't think the members of Seventeen are going to hurting for money because of the boycott, but like unless it's well organized with specific demands and has EVERYONE on board... like idk. It's just gonna mean Seventeen is seen as a bit less profitable by Hybe and I don't see how that benefits Seventeen.

i don't think they're trying to benefit svt. i think they don't want their money going to hybe, that's about it. the few statements i've seen here and there are just like "all i can really do is cancel my purchases, i don't want to be involved in this."
