McDonald’s tried to distance themselves from that by saying it was the owner’s idea. If I remember from my days working for them, the corp would have to approve any special events that happen at their stores.

I assumed it was a franchisee's idea, but I have no idea how those rules work. I worked there for less than six weeks.

I’m not sure how it is now, but McDonald’s was strict with its franchise owners about adhering to corporate guidelines. Basically, if it wasn’t corporate’s idea, you didn’t do it.

I’m sure this one owner went and did this stunt without informing corporate, but since corporate didn’t take big action against the franchisee (close the store/cancel his contract) or release a very strongly worded rebuke, it seems odd that their response was pretty quiet. I just figured they be more forceful in their rebuke of one of their stores making a political statement.

Right after I got Taco Bell I drove past McDonalds and they had one car in the drive thru, at 6pm, right at the time people get fast food for dinner after they get off work (and their lines were short even before the outbreak). They’re not really having a good year are they lol

Their prices are too high. And their one $5 meal isn't helping every location I guess.

They do this to themselves 100%. Their prices are absurd.
