I took my dad shopping today and we saw a woman in full goth getup. He asked me if she was dressed for Halloween and I reminded him that goths exist. He was all “oh yes, she’s very talented”.

this will prob make me sound old, certainly makes me feel it, but i feel like in the 90s/early 00s subcultures were just more present? so many cool goth girls i idolised, f.ex., and i was a member of a goth DIY forum that was massive and was so cool. people were making their own lace for parasols, and putting together amazing corsets and medieva gowns and cyberpunk accessoires and knitted socks, and sharing recipes of how to make exotic (back then) vegan stuff like seitan. there was such a culture of friendliness, support and rebellious spirit that i miss.

IA. I feel like fast fashion and social media in general “killed” what made these subcultures special.

You can still find subcultures nowadays but they're just not present in media the way they used to be in the 90s/00s. Like, I can name a dozen of goth characters from a decade back but none in recent movies or TV. Same with subcultures like metalheads. Back then we had Beavis and Butthead, Wayne's World, Ted and Bill, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny. The only character from a subculture I can name at the top of my head that came out in the past five years is Eddie from Stranger Things ( ... )

Totally. I was hella goth from 2001-2006, I loved getting all dressed up to go to the mall or whatever lmao. I really feel like I don’t see it as much these days!!
