this is giving the "lana del rey grew up rich" conspiracy, not even in that it's inaccurate (her father obviously did well for himself and could afford to send his troubled daughter to boarding school instead of trying to take an active role in addressing her mental health) but that it implies it inherently means the children of parents with some accumulation of wealth ipso facto have easy childhoods or didn't have to work for what they have. i'm not even a fan of chappell's and i think these "gotchas" are ridiculous. her mother is the ceo of a veterinary hospital in missouri? big fucking shit lol.
disclaimer: this is not an attack on op but the concept in general, but since this is an original i guess it's kind of an attack on op.
Born and raised in the Midwest and have multiple family friends who live/lived in mobile homes and those are not glamorous. It's not the flex you seem to think it is.
I grew up in a mobile home. Yes, it's a step up from a trailer (which is not even what's pictured in this post), but yeah, it's absolutely not a flex lmao. And mobile homes can still be parked in trailer parks. The area I lived in had a great many trailer parks with a mix of the two. I don't think Chappell is exaggerating at all.
mte i live in california and not the midwest but since my parents got divorced when i was 8 my mom has lived in back to back to back mobile homes/mobile home parks.
idk if we were “poor” necessarily but definitely lower middle class, and if that secretly means i actually grew up wealthy can someone pls tell the chip on my shoulder??
Is there some correlation between these two or just these two were chosen? I'm a bit confused and there's like 90 sources I can't click on bc I never learned how to read.
Drake did grow up kinda poor, i think. He grew up in rental apartments on the outskirts of nicer neighborhoods, if i remember correctly. Maybe not poor exactly, but lower middle class probably.
I suspect he was kinda upper middle class but might have felt more poorer depending on who he hung out with.
He also was technically child star so I'm less judgy of the people who were actually working early - his early videos were pretty basic so it's not like he was rich enough to fund his music career in a splashy way before Degrassi.
Degrassi did BTS tours of some cast members' homes and I remember thinking that Drake's was really nice. Not fabulously wealthy necessarily, but I got upper middle class vibes, especially compared to some of the other cast members.
Yeah, I work in accounting and I see so many former coworkers with fancy titles like VP, but which essentially translates to senior level accountant (i.e. one step above entry-level staff). Or someone is a controller or CFO at a company, but the company is tiny and they're basically a glorified staff accountant. Titles don't necessarily mean shit lol.

anyone can make a company and make themselves CEO so this isn't very convincing. i've been "director of finance" and never had to direct any finance
