Two episodes into the season, CBS has renewed Kathy Bates' Matlock reboot for season two. The show airs Thursday nights. Season one consists of eighteen episodes.

[Spoiler (click to open)]Matlock says her husband died and left her with a bunch of debts which is why she has to go back to work and weasels her way into a job at this firm, and she specifically wants to work on their pharma cases to make big money. But it's revealed that her folksy persona and backstory is made up. She's actually rich, her husband is alive, and she wants to work at this specific firm to find out who among the three main lawyers there hid evidence about opioids for one of their pharma clients, because it's info that could have saved her addict daughter I guess? Matlock is a fake name that she's using to kind of catch people off guard and because her daughter loved Matlock (the old show exists in the universe of this show)

tl;dr she's got a fake identity and is working against the firm

why call this shit matlock if the show has nothing in common with the original except them being lawyers. hawaii 5-0 was a faithful reboot of the original, as were macgyver and magnum. i'm going have to pass on this.

forgot about the equalizer. never seen the original show, but the new one has the same premise.
