OP, i went back and read all your posts so far before this one. thanks for sharing. it’s been an interesting read, albeit depressing in a lot of areas.

lisa really went through a lot. riley seems to have a good head on her shoulders and i have a lot of respect for how she’s taken on the heavy burden of graceland and the presley legacy etc with such grace (pun not intended), because i could never. it seems like danny is a solid guy and i’m glad they have each other (and that the twins have them too) given the losses they’ve gone through.

I honestly think it helps for Riley that her personal connection to Graceland begins and ends with her mom. The Elvis fans hate Riley but Graceland and the family legacy was such a burden on Lisa Marie, it seems like that distance is the best for Riley.

totally, that makes sense. elvis fans being terrible to her is ridiculous and it must be so exhausting to deal with, so i do hope she can compartmentalize.

The way she said "my friends are your friends" is heartbreaking because she had no friends of her own age, just people who wanted to use her or her money or her fame. I'm not surprised she ended up throwing everyone out.

It's also sad that the children she so wanted in order to be a better mother were the catalyst for her addiction issues resurfacing. I hope the twins are okay and have friends.

I remember in the days after Lisa's passing, some former (non-cult) classmates were talking about her in the press and on social media and they had lovely things to say of her but I remember one saying she gave Priscilla her house number to give to Lisa Marie before summer and she never heard from her and Lisa never returned to the school.

Another classmate said she ran into Lisa Marie by chance in their 30s at a store or something, said Lisa hugged her and immediately invited her to lunch. She promised to keep in touch but they unfortunately lost touch. Then Rose McGowen telling Howard Stern she was clearly lonely and didn't know how to make friends...I genuinely think Priscilla and Elvis failed her incredibly with helping her build lasting relationships. I don't think until Danny did she develop one- at 20ish??- when they married. She was failed at every turn.

Yeah, I can totally believe there were people who just wanted to be her friend but due to the lifestyle and the overwhelming shadow of her fame it was just so hard to stay in touch with her.

Ugh, I believe it, reminds me of how various people tried to contact Britney while her family was holding her hostage under that bogus conservatorship and they never had a response because Britney never even knew they were trying to get in touch. It wouldn't surprise me if this was a similar thing.

I think Priscilla transferring her all over the place didnt help! No stability. She did have some good celeb friends. Billy Corgen spoke highly of her after her death. Billy said it was hard to reach her in the last few years after Ben's death.

Finishing part 1 right now, but i'm just gonna ask here already- are you a writer, OP? Your flow is really good and I love how objective you are while keeping a personal approach. I really appreciate the notes too, especially the one in part 1 where you gave a bit more context on Lisa in scientology.

Anyways, I hadn't done this much reading in ONTD in a while and i'm loving it <3

The chapter ends with Lisa explaining how opioids made her love everyone and everything was fine.

This is very interesting to me because I remember how I felt this way while using opioids and it never occurred to me this might be a common side effect? It was just this really acute feeling of love for people that would come over me whenever I took my Oxycodone prescription. I thankfully did not experience addiction issues with it, but it's so understandable, especially if you've got such emotionally affirming feelings attached to it.
