Luca Guadagnino is in final negotiations for a new interpretation of the book “American Psycho” by Bret Easton Ellis for Lionsgate.

The film, which features a script by Scott Z. Burns, will not be a remake of the 2000 film, but a new adaptation of Ellis’s novel.

Maybe I'm a tad biased, but, I would love to see Timothée and Luca work on this project together. Timmy can be to Luca how Leo is to Martin. https://t.co/IQT9H8fqVT

this has nothing to do with the original tweet but the leo/martin mention reminded me of how lionsgate wanted leonardo for the role of patrick bateman and he ofc wanted to get martin or some man to direct so lionsgate fired mary harron and christian bale until leo bounced because gloria steinem of all people conviced him not to. and then gloria married christian bale's dad. lol

LOL good luck babe. It won't be hold a candle to the Harron/Bale version.

And given that that movie was directed/written by women and this one will be solely men, you know tonally it will be WAY different.

I can literally hear the press tour where they repeatedly say the first one wasn't "gritty" enough.

Yup! I had a film teacher, who was a bit “eye roll” inducing, but he wasn’t wrong when he said if a man directed it it would have been a totally different movie, and not in a good way.

Luca Guadagnino is currently attached to what feels like dozens of movies (I think it's like 5-10 in reality) and despite having 2 movies out this year and a 3rd ready to premiere next year at Cannes, I doubt he will be making all of them.

I'm getting tired of some directors churning out multiple movies a year. Take a break, eat a cookie, rest your head. Let's remember how Stephen King coming out with multiple books a year worked for him (Richard Bachman anyone? lol). Rest is good for the spirit and creative juices.

I gotta say, I disagree with this, particularly in the film industry. It's really difficult to just take a break and expect to get funding and a good cast when you decide to work again - so much of the business is capitalizing on your recent success to get the next thing made. And Luca isn't doing any one thing to death or anything - he's done original stuff (Challengers), he's done adaptations (CMBYN, B&A), he's done remakes (Suspiria), and all for pretty low to moderate budgets.

I do think if he was gassed or struggling for ideas, he'd be the first to tap out, but he currently seems to have more ideas than he does time to execute them.

Oh...dear. I love LG, but the original movie works because Mary Harron understood the insanity of it in a smart way and turned it into a twisted satire. Now that we live in an era where men are possibly even MORE hateful and incel-y than in 2000, I feel like that has to be handled verrrrry carefully. Maybe the dudes who felt betrayed by Joker 2 will latch onto this instead, lol/yikes.

Okay I've never seen this but I have a question about it I've wondered for years: Is it actually funny? Cause the book is genuinely hysterical and Bateman is such a vapid airhead in it, but I always get suave-scary-CoolKiller vibes from stills of the movie.

Some parts are like this bit where they’re all fawning over nearly identical business cards and acting like it’s serious business.
