I was in the 1st grade when X-Files came out. Never forget sneaking under the kitchen table with my sister and watching the show. It got to be so much that every Sunday night from there on out X-Files was family tv night. My dad bought the magazines, and I brought the first issue into class. The teacher called my mom because I lent it to someone and they were like, "do you know what your child is reading". My mom apparently had no issues with it because her response was "she's reading, isn't she?"

I preferred the singular story episodes over the arc stories they had later on. Then, when Doggett came in, the show started tanking because it lost the creepy atmosphere. (Nothing on Reyes and him, though, they were fine.) All in all, I have really fond memories of my childhood and how my family sat around and watched some fucked up show about UFO's with six and seven year old kids, lol.

love this show but they should have fucked at the peak of their hotness and chemistry. also this show like many others is a product of their time. it does not work in the modern world where cell phone cameras exist and conspiracy theories are a right wing obsession.

I was just thinking today how a big plot point in the first movie was how FEMA had too much power and couldn't be trusted, and look where we are today.

Nah, the new stuff made me go back and start it. I wouldn't have bothered knowing how it originally ended.

The downfall started much earlier when Mulder left.

Also as an fyi the entire series is on sale for $50 on iTunes.

I think it started when they moved production to LA. Losing the rainy PNW vibe was a big hit to the appeal for me anyway.

There were a few classics in the LA run but yeah, this is the correct answer. Also it was a dick move for Duchovny to make the entire show move to LA--people in Vancouver lost jobs!--and then bail two seasons later.
