I was reminiscing on the kdramas I loved but don’t receive enough love, so I decided to make a post for everyone to share their favorite underrated Asian dramas. (Disclaimer: This list veers older since I have been out of the kdrama loop in recent years.)
will definitely be coming back to the comments in this post.
i had been on such a kick of watching k-dramas, and then i stopped for a while. i watched the first episode of summer strike the other night, but i wasn't immediately gripped like with a lot of the ones i've watched. i *love* seo in guk, so i might have to check out shopping king louis. the oldest project of his i've seen is the smile has left your eyes.
They're not from recent years, haha, but Capital Scandal (a romance/drama about Seoul during Japanese colonial rule) and White Christmas (a thriller/mystery about high school students at a boarding school who stayed on campus during winter break).
The Guardians, not to be confused with The Guardian. It is also known as Lookout (you can't miss it, it has Kim Young-kwang and Key in the cast).
Guardians tells the story of a group of four people who team up to serve justice after losing their loved ones to criminals. The group consists of a detective, a prosecutor, a hacker, and an insomniac. They want to give these criminals the punishment that they deserve, and take matters into their own hands as the justice system in South Korea fails to capture the culprits.
adding shopping king louis and the package to my never-ending list of kdramas to watch. i need more hours in my day, i'm never catching up.
underrated asian dramas... hmmmmm, i loved loved vigilante and never heard anyone talk about it. on disney+ all my other watched shows i feel like aren't very under the radar.
1. Move to Heaven - hahaha I cried so much. Something about painful family trauma is so hard to watch abut also very cathartic.
2. Navillera - Again, one where I cried a lot but it was also really good. A beautifully told story about aging and family.
3. Melancholia - I just really identified with the themes of depression, idk.
4. Inspector Koo - A++++ Cat and Mouse game type drama. And it was really fun stylistically too.
5. No Gain, No Love - lmao this one JUST finished but I enjoyed it a LOT. A genuinely funny romcom with a really compelling female lead and very sweet moments with the main couple. The close female friendships really elevated the show imo.
