People ate stretching the definition of nepotism to the point it became completely nonsensical. I don't give a fuck about Billie Eilish, but her parents are not successful actors. They are not wealthy. She and her brother are successful musicians. Those are different fucking industries. Those people are not connected enough to make themselves famous, you think they are connected and rich enough to buy thier kids career in different industry? This is so fucking stupid i can't deal with that.

The one that always kills me is when people bring up that Phoebe Bridgers' father painted sets. Like, having parents who value art and have stable employment in an adjacent industry is an obvious advantage over those who don't, but it's not a direct path to fame.

I compare it to people I know with normal ass jobs who come from middle class families. Like, no one hired you as a graphic designer bc your dad is an accountant for a medium sized firm in another city, but you probably couldn't have got there without access to technology or education growing up. Or maybe you had a family friend who gave you advice about school at a critical point, or your mom's friend hired you to design their wedding cards when you were starting out. Idk

SAG is known for its excellent medical insurance, if you work enough hours in the year to qualify.

Like there's certainly a benefit from having family members who understand how the industry works and can help you network, but there's a big difference between having a parent in SAG and coming from a generational media empire.

Once again, it's ok to have nuance?
The problem isn't that upper and middle class families have access to arts education and leisure, it's that so many people don't

Billie def had an advantage because her parents were already on the inside and knew some basic tricks of the trade as a result. Did that necessarily guarantee a career? No, but it def lets her skip a few trial and error steps that a newcomer would have to face. Obviously you can’t compare Billie to someone like Riley Keough or the other nepobabies who come from legacy acts.

Now granted you never know if maybe a more connected friend helped along the way cause I remember it got mentioned that Maggie was Melissa Mcartney’s acting coach at one point and she met Billie as a kid. Again no guarantee but you never know if her or someone else maybe once put in a good word for her or Finneas and they just won’t mention it.

I don't think they are nepo babies in a regular sense, but they did benefit from having parents knowing the industry.

Side note, there is this one actress on tiktok that I watch that is more on the commercial side of acting and the hustle of it all sounds exhausting. Like sure sometimes the payouts are like 12k for three days of work, but all the things you had to do to get that three days or work was almost two weeks of work itself etc.
