It’s so crazy to me how differently I view these men as an adult versus as a child. They were like the boogey men for a while. And literally everyone at the time was totally convinced they were psychotic murderers who would kill for money. It’s actually a little hard for me to think of them as anything other than “those two brothers who murderers their parents” but the reality is that a dozen of their family verified that this abuse took place, that they’d witnessed it themselves and it’s clear that these two men should not have gone to prison. Or, if they did, on a manslaughter charge for a couple years. We only get one life to live and this world really did those men dirty.

And holy shit they weren’t allowed to see each other for 20 years!

That part makes me so angry and sad for them. I hope they get out and have years of freedom and happiness they deserve it!

This is where I am with it. I'm old enough to remember all the Dominick Dunne articles in Vanity Fair about it and I had a very black-and-white viewpoint on it at that time.

I *also* think that two things can be true at the same time: the Menendez case deserves a review and Ryan Murphy's true crime shows suck 💩

All Ryan Murphy shows suck, but the true crime ones are egregiously bad

Jesus Christ, Ryan Murphy has just rocketed to the top of my time for the urn list. What a hateful, snide piece of shit he is.

Ryan Murphy is such an entitled and arrogant prick. Telling two abuse survivors that they’re “playing the victim card” is beyond disgusting.

I'm so glad their case is going to get the chance to be reevaluated but Ryan Murphy's narcissistic ass had nothing to do with that.

Also if anyone wants to watch a respectful story about this case, I would highly recommend the Peacock documentary Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed

Thanks for the mention. I was hoping there was a balanced doc out there for those of us who were too young to understand this case when it happened. Just sucks it's on one of the few streams I don't have

There is also a new Menendez doc coming out on Netflix on Monday. From what I’m hearing, it’s also really pro-defense of the brothers. So hopefully that will be a good one.

The Menendez Murders: Erik Tells All is really well done--interviews with Erik, their family, their psychiatrist, people who worked the case and reported on it. It's on Freevee and Amazon Prime.
