I did wonder (and I'm sure others did too) if this was going to happen and figured this was part of Ryan's play. He got so much deserved shit for the first season, I wondered if picking a case that involved people he could "redeem" and say "SEE I HELPED!" would be his mo. Of course, not only does this make that really look like that was his goal, but of course he's handling the reevaluation with absolutely zero grace. ON BRAND! Way to make somebody else's lives completely about yourself for the billionth time, asshole.

No matter how hard Ryan tries, whether the outcome is good or bad, at the end of the day, Ryan will still be a turd.

especially since his show made them look HORRIBLE (worse than dahmer, imo) and yet he'll still take credit for "freeing them" smh

Was their guilt always in question?

My only point of reference of this case is from The Nanny so if there's a documentary about their case send recs my way.

there was never doubt they committed the crime, it was always about why and the matter of degree (murder vs manslaughter)

Yep like the arilicious said without a doubt they did it…but I do remember that the court did question The validity behind the brothers claim that their father sexually abused them though.

Just to add, I believe there was a retrial after a deadlocked jury and in the second trial the judge excluded any testimony about the abuse.

I hope something can come of this.

It astounds me that the judge barred any evidence or testimony of sexual abuse in the second trial. Iirc several jurors on that second trial said they would’ve never found them guilty of first degree murder had they known or heard about the sexual abuse.

Charging them with manslaughter would’ve been more reasonable and they would’ve been out way before now.

Well, this was also at a time when a lot of people believed you couldn't really assault men, I think that was a big part of it, right? The myths around men and sexual assault are vile.

yes I remember reading that even one of the prosecutors flat out said men couldn't get assaulted.

I hope things work out in their favor, cause I think convicting them of first degree murder and sentencing them to life without parole was just excessive. I think manslaughter, 20 years, would've been enough. they've done their time.
