Was their guilt always in question?

My only point of reference of this case is from The Nanny so if there's a documentary about their case send recs my way.

there was never doubt they committed the crime, it was always about why and the matter of degree (murder vs manslaughter)

Yep like the arilicious said without a doubt they did it…but I do remember that the court did question The validity behind the brothers claim that their father sexually abused them though.

Just to add, I believe there was a retrial after a deadlocked jury and in the second trial the judge excluded any testimony about the abuse.

I did a bit Googling about the case last night and I'm absolutely dumbfounded. Thanks to 90s shows like The Nanny I got the expression that they were just sociopaths who wanted their parent's money and killed them for it.

And excluding the abuse allegations is so crazy considering they were minors when it happened.

i don’t think either of them were minors. erik was 18, lyle maybe 20 or 21.
