To answer my own question...

I know he's technically given better performances, but I'm a sucker for his movies with Douglas Sirk

You're right! The Sirk films are the best overall, but his best performances are probably in Seconds and some of his light comedies.

Douglas Sirk movies are something else. They’re like moving paintings or something.

I liked the movies with Doris Day - when I was a kid they used to have classic movies on TV on weekend afternoons and Saturday nights and those ones popped up regularly. I also really loved the Douglas Sirk ones.

He was a proper movie star with more range than he is really remembered for.

I remember when it was revealed he had AIDS and how ghoulish the tabloid media was. It was horrific. :-(

Richard Burton honestly was based as hell. Every take I've ever read about him just makes me love him more.
