I think it's just because they look bad on everyone who has one to begin with. Even when I was a teen and thought piercings were cool, septum piercings always made me cringe. Y'all look a cartoon bull.
Whenever I talk to someone with a septum piercing all my eyes can do is focus on the piercing, it's so distracting for my ADHD because it's like a little target. with a regular nose ring or hoop it's less obvious
John Early on the podcast Sloppy Seconds made such a good point about how all fantasy films have the same CGI/Harry Potter aesthetic. You look at something like The Wiz, flawed as it may be, but vibrated with style AND personality. It had a singular vision. Wicked looks like any other fantasy film.
I wonder if it's because they keep contracting the same studio to do it or if it's because there's so much studios can do with whatever limited time and budget they are given.
There's definitely a certain uncanny valley "gloss" to it that we don't see with Jurassic Park. Idk if it's the hyperpigmentation/saturation, unnatural lighting, everything being too high def to the point of them having to "fix skin flaws/texture" in post, or what. It's ironic how less and less studios are using animatronics when there's been some pretty big leaps made in robotics nowadays.
