Gallows humor is for the one about to hang, not the witnesses.

Oh you dumb c u next tuesday, small earthquakes are not worse then these horrific hurricanes and flooding.

But this is Jaclyn Shill, always needing to be over the top dramatic and stupid.

(I am Icelandic, I know my earthquakes ok)

This was a major disaster and wtf was she thinking to post this??? I hope ONTDers and their loved ones who were affected by this are safe :(

[Spoiler (click to open)]Also, just ??? at her saying earthquakes in California are worse bc as someone born and raised in California none in my lifetime have caused the amount of destruction as frequently as I’ve seen from hurricanes. If anything, wildfires are the ones that concern me the most in California not earthquakes…

I thought the same thing, re: [Spoiler (click to open)]wildfires. But I'm guessing she lives more coastal and not inland or in NorCal, where wildfires are more common. And also as someone born and raised in SoCal, I grew up near the fault line, too, for more than half my life, and I'd pick earthquakes over other natural disasters

Yup. so I looked it up and considering Helene's death toll RN is 95, the last time California had more deaths than that from an earthquake was 1933. And if the toll surpasses 115-120 then you'll have to go back to 1906.

I was lucky enough to move out of Florida but after spending a huge chunk of my life there (lucky bc I never enjoyed living there for more reasons than just the hurricanes), but hurricanes are something I'll always take seriously. You can't even trust the categorization sometimes, because it can turn on a dime. We moved out of state literally months before Hurricane Michael made a direct hit to the town we'd been living in, and that area still hasn't recovered. Apparently people are genuinely still traumatized and so many trees were knocked down at the temperature dropped a good 10 degrees because you can actually feel the wind when it blows now.

It sounds like the people of Asheville (and the surrounding towns) are in for a long next few months and I hope they get the help and resources they need to recover. My heart really goes out to them.

And no, I've never been through an earthquake, but I'm not going to be laughing at those either. It's not funny when entire communities suffer and people die.

I hatefollow Jaclyn and she's always been an insufferable twat. I bet she'd get along well with Vanessa Hudgens.

I don't know how you can say something so tone deaf while people have just experienced a major disaster. I live in central NC, but my heart has been so heavy for everyone in Asheville. Just take a peak at their reddit page to see how dire things are there, especially with so many roads being wiped away/blocked. It's also scary to think how climate change is drastically changing how storms affect us.
