Streamers: who knew a legitimate theatrical release requires a full service marketing and distribution business model

I wish the Academy would go back to preventing streaming movies from being eligible for Oscars. Movies made by streamers watched on a television are called tv movies and that’s what Emmys are for.

(I love Scorsese and thought KOFM was excellent; a traditional studio should’ve had that one)

I agree.
If they want the industry to survive they need to protect movie theaters.

Plus, a movie that does well in theaters is much more likely to do big numbers on streaming. So giving them a theatrical run is a good strategy.

I agree. streaming has really soured awards season for me, cause it's hard to watch most of the movies when you don't have that streaming service (plus most movies just look better on a big screen in a theater)

Theatrical release rules should be changed, more cities, maybe even countries (but that might be my bias talking since I am not in the US) and if streamers want an Oscar they better work for it that way, otherwise they can try for an Emmy.

The app is janky except when using a television; other devices frequently lose synch between visual and audio so you have to exit and reopen to re-synch

They’ve had decent tv shows but are, no surprise, terrible at promo for them as well.

If you buy a film via Apple to watch via the Apple TV app and the digital version included extras, sometimes the extras are no longer available, despite them being part of the purchase.

I’ve had issues with them for years where I’ll be halfway through a season and eps will just stop working.
