Ha was good when he was younger.

I think he'd benefit from working with someone that'd challenge him. Not sure Marty does that bc i solid watching after his slavery movie with Tarantino

I agree. In his younger days, there was this rawness and vulnerability to his acting that was phenomenal. But it feels like he became more self aware or something in the mid 00s and you could tell he was "acting."

YESSSS omg this is what i’ve been saying for years…. it’s like he felt he had something to prove as a young heartthrob but instead of just taking good roles in good movies and doing the thing that had made him famous he started getting incredibly self conscious about Doing Acting, and now everything feels like you can see how he’s planning every little bit of body language and expression because he doesn’t just rely on the instincts that made him famous in the first place…. to me his last good role was in catch me if you can and everything i’ve seen him in since he was so bad it took me out of the movie entirely

I only saw that recently and Leo was excellent in it. Usually if I hear that he's in something I know I'll be bored, and if it's Leo + Marty I'm right out.

Leo is talented but there's something so dull about the roles he takes and the movies he favours.

Also I was obsessed with him when I was sixteen and had an embarassing number of posters of him on my walls.

I think he is a good actor but I feel like him only Oscar-bait films for so long stunted his acting a bit that he basically acts that way.

Cause a few of his pre-Oscar bait films show his talents. That’s why I liked his work with Tarantino where he could display that slight comedy cause those aren’t the typical Oscar-bait format even though they do awards attention.

I wish he’d do more range and let someone else be Marty’s film insurance.

Yeah, that's my issue with him too. He's done so many Oscar-bait movies that he doesn't have a lot of range. Say what you want about Tom Hardy's wonky American accent mumble-core acting, but Venom has proven his range. Leo can be okay in roles where we laugh at him (eg. Wolf of Wall Street) but he cannot pull off roles where we're meant to laugh with him. Leo does dramatic roles well but he also plays them all the same way, whereas there's a certain physicality that Tom Hardy puts in his acting that Leo doesn't. Leo holds himself the same way in all his movies.

Yeah that's why you get the "leonardo dicaprio playing leonardo dicaprio as ____" but I would argue that OUATIH was a case where he wasn't as oscar-baity as usual was a good move for him.

Watching Tom Hardy in Venom vs Mad Max… The guy is a great actor. I really enjoy him in Venom because you know he also has a lot of fun and embraces the camp. I can't see Leo ever embracing the camp.
