I like that Jacob continues to work with female directors. That's all I got.

Will this be yet another one of her “outrageous” ideas that will end up utterly underwhelming with a nice aesthetic? This woman’s movies are so empty that I don’t even think having source material will help

One of my friends described Promising Young Woman as "two hours of Carey Mulligan yelling SIKE at people"

I liked the premise of both her films, but she couldn't stick the landing.
Maybe with an adaptation she'll do better.

What in the miscast hell. 🥴 I’m not a fan of Emerald’s “work” tbh. It’s just aesthetics and vibes, like she writing to go viral on social media. She nor these two are right for this adaptation.

I thought we'd finally turned a corner with the 2011 adaptation that maybe filmmakers would stop whitewashing Heathcliff, but alas. Absolutely terrible choice.

Also I like Margot well enough, but she doesn't work in period dramas set earlier than Wolf of Wall Street for me at all. She's not full knows-what-an-iPhone-is face, but she's at least got watches-tv face.

I've never read the book, but I clearly remember posts on people saying Heathciff is poc. So I'm curious why it's a white dude.

He’s explicitly described as dark-skinned in the book, but it’s ambiguous as to what that means exactly. He’s described both as a g*ypsy and a lascar, the latter of which was an Indian sailor at the time, among other terms throughout the book, and the general consensus among lit circles is that Emily intended for him to be mixed race with either South Asian or Black heritage, but a lot of people choose to ignore that for all the reasons you can probably guess. It’s truly infuriating, and why it was so great to see the (albeit flawed) 2011 film cast black actors in the role.

Seriously! I would say "can people not read," but I remember the Rue in Hunger Games incident and it turns out no, they cannot. 💀
