i don't know enough about this case really but in general there's way too much sensationalization and trivialization of living people that have committed crimes and it just feels very carceral and counterproductive. makes me deeply uncomfortable. i know rah rah censorship but like its unethical and fucked up.
no like he literally did it's so wild. the number of scenes where the boys are shirtless, flashing 6 packs around etc. the promo photo of them shirtless is crazy work. it's very transparent what he's trying to do

I saw something on TikTok about him including an incestuous scene in the show, which is actually fucking sick and depraved. From court documents, the brother that did the sexual abusing to the other apologized, and there was never a romantic capacity to that and there were never any rumors that alleged that either. Actually depraved by Murphy.

The imagery sure seems to imply that. The header image on Netflix (as of last week or so) showed them shirtless and semi-embracing and I was like "..........???"
Re: Ariana DeBose bakemonosSeptember 20 2024, 19:31:17 UTC
Yeah like... I know there were heavy implications during the trial that one of the brothers (idk which one) was gay and they used that as a counter against the child abuse claims so like.......... all of that and research (lol if Murphy did any outside of Googling) that's what y'all came up with?
So does this mean the show doesn't say that they were abused? The promo sure implied that it was going there. I'm confused as to what the objection is.
And I'm curious what they think about the Law & Order True Crime version of the story -- I thought it was very sympathetic to them, like to a fault. I believe that they were abused, but it's still kinda OTT in how much it romanticizes them.
it does say they were abused (for as far along as i've watched it, anyway) and jose is definitely portrayed as an awful man, but it really focuses on their personalities and how "awful" and "spoiled" they are, and having no insight into how they acted during the aftermath of the murders i find it really hard to see how it's relevant to portray them in that light. there are times where it almost seems like he's trying to make you feel unsympathetic towards them, like they're minimised bc they're rich kids or something? idk that's the vibe i have been getting from it, anyway.
yeah in a sense, i think. i get the polarising "they're not the perfect victims" angle but to outright make them seem like detestable guys at times is inappropriate. i'm sure they exhibited entitled rich kid behaviour but how far does that point actually need to be driven in?
