I mean, Addams' Family was also clean and nice. I don't think it was meant to be THAT dark. And the issue is there's a thin line between Sabrina and Riverdale.
an interesting theory I came across is that Netflix wanted to release their own Monster High and slapped an IP on it to lure a built-in audience, which makes sense based on how the writing constantly contradicts itself in season one where they force Wednesday to fit into a Riverdale world.
That is an interesting take and probably smart on their part because so many people I know watched it simply for the nostalgia of the Addams Family movies
Interesting theory, but false. Not only because Netflix has the money to have literally BOUGHT the rights to Monster High if they wanted (and they would have) but ALSO the fact that Tim Burton has wanted to get his hands on Charles Addams' work since the 80s. He was meant to direct the 90s movies, but was busy with Batman. The show runners began the story writing before Netflix even got involved, and sent it off to Burton who jumped at the chance to finally get involved.
I think the writing being the way it was is based on the fact that once again you have grown men (2 almost 60 year old men) writing shows about teenagers. Teenage girls for the most part. Which really puts into perspective Jenna's claimed rewrites.
Nah, he was a bitch. And I think it was BECAUSE of the actor. You liked his performance, you probably wouldn't like another actor in the role. Unfortunate that he's a terrible fucker.

I feel like this show is a little too... clean and nice? In a weird way, I thought it would match Sabrina's esthetic more.
