- Grey's Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch lied about having cancer (which was then turned into Catherine's cancer story on the show), losing a friend at the Tree of Life synagogue shooting, losing a brother to suicide AND MORE before she was finally exposed by her own wife
- This was all described in a two-part Vanity Fair story, now it's a 3-part

Not gonna watch, but yeah, this story was bonkers. I can't imagine the internal stress involved in keeping up that many high level lies, I can barely tell a white lie for a good reason, like a surprise party. I'm sure mental illness explains some of it, but I can't imagine how the people who knew this woman irl felt once they realized the depth of her deception.

Oops I submitted this too.

Its crazy to me how she got away with it for so long and would write the storylines into the show (Catherine's cancer + the sexual assault episode). Hopefully they'll interview some other writers/staff at the time - I know some said they had to write episodes for her because she'd claim to be in treatment or exhausted from it and she'd get the credit.

She's such an evil, selfish person. I found this thread in one of our old posts about this case and it's a great (terrifying) read.

She says she started the lie because after she healed from her knee surgery, the friends who had been taking care of her through her recovery went quiet, and she didn't like that. So she never let it get quiet ever again.

I remember hearing about this on twitter because I think one of the people that started suspecting her had an army background(?) and he started noticing that certain things she say didn’t make sense.
