Siri was bad enough. lmao i always hold onto my tech until it's dead but i'm going to keep this iphone 12 until i am dead and then get a dumb phone
regarding the boycott: i primarily hang on to old tech and try to keep it for as many as years as possible BECAUSE all tech brands are complicit in slave labor.
you need a smart phone or laptop to apply for jobs, to live, to get by. CHUDs get mad at unhoused people for having phones, sneering at them and saying the have obamaphones when one of the only ways to get a job these days is to have regular access to a phone, web browser, and email account.
and this contributes to how helpless i feel -- knowing that i need phone or a computer to get by, but also knowing that built-in obsolescence is very much part of the capitalistic hellscape we live in.
i actually love iOS and am so used to it, but am considering this phone in the future
This is where I'm at. I have a serious problem with the ethical implications of new tech, but it pretty much has us by the balls so I hold on to things until I can't anymore. I hate planned obsolescence with a fiery passion, we've been told that we need faster, better shit, every single year. For bigger items (like PCs), I buy the best I can afford so that I'm not forced to upgrade anything for several years. I only replaced my desktop PC (that I built in 2013) last year.
unless something is wrong with the phone I keep my phones for at least 4 years. This last one I gave to my mom, plan to do this going forward. She currently has the 8 and I have the 13. Still 2 more years before I plan to get a new one.
I still have my 8 - it’s getting pretty ratty and the battery life is terrible, but a new phone here costs AUD $1500+ and I just don’t want to shell out that kind of money for something I use to read ONTD and books and look at knitting on Instagram, so I’m hanging on to this one until it carks it.
The 8 is holding up pretty good. My mom really only uses it to scroll the web, YouTube(rarely), and a few word games. She would never buy an iphone. Her usual phones are $200 max. So she's wait for me to upgrade unless it breaks.
