As a 39-year-old woman dating a 27-year-old man, I am all in for this string of straight-to-streaming cougar romcoms (starring women I would leave this young man for in a heartbeat, call me Laura!!)

With this + The Dressmaker I am liking this career path for Liam tbh (romancing older ladies)

I’m so over this trope. It’s just not interesting to me.

ETA: I think I’d like this trope more if the couple didn’t end up together. But that’s not usually the case.

It always feels like the writer's fantasy, especially as it's usually a 'struggling artist' and told from the POV of the older partner.

When it's from the perspective of the younger partner, and perhaps more about their own growth and/or dealing with their feelings around it, it can be more interesting (An Education, etc.).

The only age gap love affair movie I truly love though is Harold and Maude. That was a beautiful story of people finding what they needed from one other across generations in the strangest way possible (also they don't end up together, since obviously...).

That said, Laura Dern can get it at any age.

For sure. She’s beautiful. Same thing with Anne Hathaway. It almost felt like, what age difference?

Yeah like the movie is set up like an age-gap movie, except everyone is super hot and young looking so it's sort of weird? Also Australians age so fast in the sun there lol.
